Root Chakra Meditation: Healing + Cleansing The Root Chakra (PLUS 6-Step Meditation!)
January 29, 2024
When it comes to meditating on certain imbalances, it can be tough to know where to start, and how to even identify the imbalance. These days, finding time to meditate can be more difficult than most things! But throughout our day to day, when we get those feelings of instability and imbalance we just can’t shake, there are natural ways to go about finding peace and balance. That’s where chakra meditation comes in! In this article we’re diving into this foundational energy center – the Root Chakra. But what exactly is the Root Chakra, and what is a Root Chakra Meditation?
What is the Root Chakra?
The Root Chakra, known in Sanskrit as “Muladhara,” is the first of the seven main energy centers in the human body, according to traditional Hindu and yogic philosophy. Located at the base of the spine, this chakra serves as the foundation of our entire energy system.
The Root Chakra is associated with our basic survival needs, physical grounding, and a sense of security. It ties us to earthly elements, and balanced root chakra energy provides a solid foundation for personal growth.
Balanced vs Imbalanced Root Chakra
When the Root Chakra is balanced, it contributes to a strong foundation for us, grounds us in the present, and helps us to navigate life’s challenges with resilience. A balanced Root chakra reminds us of our identity in everything we do, and empowers us to navigate life’s challenges with strength and resilience. It helps us to remember where we come from, all the support we have from our family, our blood line, and our soul contracts.
Imbalances in the Root can manifest as feelings of insecurity, fear, or instability. This disruption in energy flow definitely is powerful, but the “source” of this disruption isn’t always obvious to us. What is obvious, is more so the aftermath of the root chakra imbalance, that can impact so many aspects of life from strained relationships to difficulties in decision making. Struggling with these things? Constantly feeling issues with the root chakra coming up for you? You may need to focus on healing this chakra, and what better way to do so than with Root chakra meditation!
What is a Root Chakra Meditation?
Root chakra meditation is a practice that focuses on balancing and energizing the root chakra. This type of meditation may include specific visualizations or intentions surrounding themes the root chakra is associated with. A chakra meditation is helping you focus in and identify the cause of your holistic imbalance, so a root chakra meditation is really helping you get in touch with all those aspects of life relating to the root chakra.

Step-by-Step 15 Minute Root Chakra Meditation to Try
Try this 15 minute Root Chakra Meditation in your next session! If you like the first 15 minutes, extend the meditation longer each time you practice. Use this meditation on your own, as any blockages with your root chakra come up, or as needed when you need to connect back to your roots.
Prepare:
Find a quiet space + prepare. If you’re using crystals, palm stones, cleansing agents, etc. you can set up your grids or place crystals naturally to how they feel best in your space. As you’re setting things up, recognize how you’re feeling, and choose your mantra affirmations to guide your meditation. Light your sage, palo santo, resin, or wave your selenite through your space for cleansing. Get into your meditation zone, position yourself comfortably, and begin to focus on your breath slowing into rhythm.
Set Intentions:
Bring awareness to the current moment and set intentions for your meditation session. Speak intentions allowed or repeat in your head. After 3-5 sets of 4 count breaths, start your timer on your phone for 15 minutes and drop in when you’re ready.
Grounding Visualizations:
Start your meditation by visualizing the grounding roots connecting you to the Earth, feeling the stability and support they provide. Stay here for about 3-5 minutes, just feeling the grounding connection between all parts of your body connecting to where you’re sitting. Welcome all thoughts, and if they’re not related to root chakra healing, welcome other thoughts and send them on their way. Reframe and refocus back to your root healing. Don’t get hung-up on distractions! Distractions are normally and totally fine, and you can always refocus.
Begin your affirmations:
Repeat your chosen affirmations. Focus on feeling their positive energy resonating in through the Root chakra. Absorb this energy at the base of the spine, and feel it reenergize your body all the way to the top of your Crown chakra. Soak this up, visualize your entire body soaking in this energy, and continue to keep your breath steady.
Incorporate Other Resources:
Feel free to grab your palm stone or crystals during meditation. Sometimes some emotional things may come up, and crystals are great to grab and hold tight during these moments. Consider putting crystals on the body, laying down, and placing right on the Root chakra.
Release Tension + Come Back to Present:
Once you’re ready, gently bring yourself back to the present, releasing tension and relaxing the body. Stretch and continue deep breaths. Reflect and welcome new perspectives.
After this meditation, definitely consider journaling and writing down anything that comes up for you during meditation.
